Call Me Un-American But I Don't Like Clint Eastwood

I mean no disrespect to this film icon. I have never met the guy. He may be a lovely person in real life. But I just don't dig his movies or his way of acting. Never have. Never will.

My husband calls me un-American for feeling this way. He thinks Mr. Eastwood is the man. Most guys do. He's cool, a badass and always wins the girl, the gun and the academy award in the end.

Still, he does nothing for me. When he squints his eyes or whispers instead of enunciating, I'm like.... Why is he doing that? Is he having a semi-stroke? I just don't see the appeal.

Of course, I don't much like John Wayne either. Shall I list my address at the end of this post where you can send me hate mail? I know, I know. But he too is so blah, blah, blah to me. However, I do like the movies where he acts alongside Maureen O'Hara. She's one red firecracker and I adore her. Mr. Wayne.... not so much!

Maybe I just don't like Westerns. Well, that's not totally true. I think Tombstone is fabulous. When Doc Holliday played by Val Kilmer says, "I'm Your Huckleberry," I laugh and laugh. I will sit and watch Dances with Wolves in its entirety as well.

Mr. Eastwood's age is not the problem either. I love seasoned actors like Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro and Gene Hackman. I have seen many of their films. I have no complaints against their body language and flare with words.

But Clint, oh Clint. Maybe you should have just stayed in politics - you shook things up as Mayor of Carmel. Or perhaps you could have created a petting zoo for children with Clyde, the orangutan as the co-owner.

I wish you the best in life, I really do. I'd love for you to retire though so folks like Johnny Depp, Philip Seymour Hoffman and other gifted actors could gain some much-deserved spotlight. And then I wouldn't owe my husband one of your "manly" movies in exchange for a "chick" flick. Could you please consider an early departure from the studios, for me? Go ahead, make my day.

Dang, I just can't get a post to work! The first post showed up as my husband's profile, then my second vanished....sheesh!

I was saying I'm not a fan of Clint Eastwood, or westerns in general, but I loved Rio Bravo with John (Marion) Wayne, and Tombstone is still one of my all time favs (thank you Val Kilmer for making tuberculosis sexy!!!).

Wow, I'm so honored that my dad, oops I mean Mr. Eastwood, stopped by my blog to tell me he wants to kick my ass. Hahaha! (Love you! Hug mom for me. I miss you both!)

Jill - You're so right! Val does make T.B. look good - why don't boys get named "Marion" these days? Hmmmm..... :-)

I remember watching "The Quiet Man" with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. It was a great movie. I loved Maureen O'Hara's feisty responses and independent spirit. She was a wonderful actress. I agree with you about Clint. But my Dad did love his movies.

LOL. My husband also thinks Clint is "the man", especially in all those Spaghetti westerns. I admit, I'm a big fan of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", and I've never had anything against Clint, but he's not a favorite of mine. Maybe, like you say, it's the squinty eyes. Sometimes when I watch his movies, all I want to do is smooth out the wrinkles around his eyes and apply some moisturizer to them. LOL. I would take him over John Wayne though. I never understood how John Wayne got so famous...he's so tedious to watch. LOVE Maureen O'Hara though!

Not one of my favs either, but I did enjoy Gran Torino, and that other one I'm too old to remember the name of where he was the female boxer's trainer. :)

Thanks for dropping by my blog, sha! (You need a Cajun care package???)

I am not a fan of any of his older movies but I do have to say that there are some pretty great new ones. Million Dollar Baby was pretty good, Gran Torino was really good but Absolute Power and Bridges of Madison County are definitely worth seeing. I will never ever watch any of his old stuff and do sympathize with you on the whole exchanging sessions with your husband - I once had to sit through a Zombie movie at the theater because my husband agreed to see one of my movies.
