I wasn't going to write anything today. After all, no words can express or properly commemorate the tragic and heroic events of 9/11 that happened eight years ago.
Wow, EIGHT YEARS AGO! Time doesn't stand still after all but it sure seemed to on that day.
As I listened to the radio on my commute to work this morning and clips from events were being replayed, I cried. Just like I did on 9/11. I cried on my commute to work when the events were unfolding. Then I cried watching the plane hit the second tower on television in my boss' office.
I cried thinking about all the courage and all the loss that occurred so suddenly. I remember how patriotism came alive again for every U.S. citizen and even beyond the borders of the U.S. Thinking back to how we came together as a nation is just so inspiring and so wonderful.
Although I struggle with my faith, my place in this world, my career, my role as a mother, my life choices and many of the day to day things that bring me down, I remembered an important fact about myself today. And that is this: I'm proud to be an American.
As cliche' as that may sound, I am proud to live in the red, white and blue. I would not want to live anywhere else.
So for today, I will remember all mankind because let's face it, ALL of us were affected by these events, some greater than others but we all were impacted by it. Just for today, let us know that we are all in this together. We're all on the same team.
And on that note, I leave you with one of my more recent favorite patriotic (and silly) songs. No, it isn't Lee Greenwood or Neil Diamond. (Those guys are great though!) It's actually from the wacky movie "Team America" by Southpark creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. As those Team America puppets sang, "America, F*ck Yeah!"
That's right! Now, I realize that you don't have to curse to be patriotic but I am feeling saucy and extra passionate about who I am and where I live at this particular moment. So just humor me today as I proudly sing - "America, F*ck Yeah!"

America! F*ck Yeah! is a fantastic song!! Love it.
I remeber where I was 8 years ago. I was in class at college. One of my fellow classmates came in and started talking all crazy about airplanes and stuff...we didn't know what she was talking about. We continued on with class and then I headed over to Jordan's place where he and all his roommates were glued to the TV. I was like "What is going on??" I believe classes were called off for the rest of they day, and we sat there and watched tv; silent, dumbfounded, angry, confused.
It was a horrific day for all!
love your potty mouth and patriotism! anne
I worked from home today b/c I work next to the WTC site. 9/11 is such a crowded, depressing day. I can't bear it.

Gosh ... I think I saw that movie ... don't think I finished watching it though. What a great title! Those guys have balls don't they?
And it is hard to believe that it was 8 years ago. My boss wouldn't let us go home and we barely knew the scope of what was happening until I got home.
It's still so hard to digest and comprehend. We'll never forget.
Lest We Forget.
I love Team America, great spin on a sad day!
Don't cry! :'(
Even though it was 8 years ago, it feels like only yesterday that the towers went down. I remember having to go to class (I was just starting sophomore year in college), and all of us were silent and spaced out, and I remember our professor couldn't even teach -- she just talked to us about what we were all "feeling" after the news of the planes that morning. Ugh, it was a horrible day for our nation, but I was happy (like you) to see how we all came together. I, too, am proud to be an American.
America, F*ck Yeah! ;)
