The timing is great for me, especially since Vivian and I are having a rough week adjusting to the time change (Damn you Daylight Savings! You're not saving me anything, just causing me more trouble!) I have felt very tired and uninspired this week. But my folks have come to the rescue!
I gave them some possible suggestions to discuss but ultimately, let them scribble away on whatever they felt like sharing. I promised not to edit their words and thoughts.
Anyway, I present to you - my parents: Ginny and Larry (or as they call themselves "Buddy" and "Mia" - their special grandparents names)
Buddy and Mia's Life after 60
First, meet Larry, my dad (Or Buddy as his grandchildren call him. He uses quite a few aliases in the comments section on my blog too).

Well, lets make a correction right off, Mia's only 59+. I don't want to start off with trouble from the start!!
Yeah, how the time flies, it seems like just last week I was in high school.
But life after 60 has some good points - two are my beautiful granddaughters, Vivian and Brooklynn.
Being a grandparent is great but don't call me "grandpa". They call me BUDDY and I am their Buddy.
I guess this part is where I tell you about me.
I am just your average guy who wakes up about 6:00 a.m., jogs 4 miles, then goes to the gym for an hour, comes back home to de-head an ice chest of full of gulf shrimp (40/50 count beautiful shrimp), cut the grass and wash the car. Then I end my day with a big Crown Royal and Coke while I sit down to watch Monday Night Football.
Wow, life in the fast lane! That's me!
I can't sit still for too long, I have got to be doing something. I try to hang around younger people and feed off their energy. People my age and older -- they talk about the pills they take, their blood pressure, and all kinds of negative crap that I don't want to hear.
This past Saturday, for example, I ran a 5K race and I hung around with guys in their 20's and 30's. When the start gun went off, they took off like a bat out of hell but I caught up with some of them and surprised a few of those youngens when I ran past them with a smile. I finished first place in my age catagory, and 13th overall out of about a 100 runners. Not bad for an old geezer like me! (see my picture above from the race)
Speaking of old geezers, the wife and I are taking a trip to Branson, Missouri coming up soon. We had a meet and greet group meeting with those folks taking the Bus Tour with us. This meeting was a couple of weeks back, and man alive, I never saw so many "snowbirds" in my life. (By "snowbirds", I mean old people with a head full of white hair. Nothing but white-haired folks!!) Me, your Uncle Mike and that bottle of Crown Royal will try to liven up that bus group! I wouldn't be suprised if somebody croaks on that bus, those people looked so old!!
Mandy, I like reading your Blog. I really like reading what your friends write as comments. I say "friends" 'cause they really do seem like FRIENDS. The diversity of the group on here really amazes me. People from all parts of the country read your site, some even out of country and even NEEEEEW YORRRRK CITTTTY. I mean that's really cool!
I'd like to invite all your readers down here so we could fry up some catfish, some dinner rolls, and pop a few cold ones to Skynard and ZZ Top. We would have a blast. Y'all come on down!!
Alright there my Mandy Pandy (Little Bit), that's it from your dad -- Buddy Out!
------------------------------------
Now, meet my mom Ginny (pronounced just like "Jenny") or as her two granddaughters call her, Mia.

Greetings daughter of mine's readers,
I am the 59 and 1/2 year old, Ginny. Well, I'm Mia, as I'm called by my granddaughters. I have retired from thirty years of teaching for 5 years now.
I am lovin' retirement! I do what I want, when I want, if I want, most of the time.
I hit the gym 3 or 4 times a week, and walk 2 or 3 times, 3 or 4 miles at a time. I think I do this because of heart disease in my family. I'm really enjoying a Latin cardio toning class for the last month. The music is great, and we get a lot of shimmying and hip-swaying in, too. We even do a soul train line sometimes to Latin music.
My husband and I go to movies and out to restaurants sometimes, but I do still cook. I do enjoy reading. I always have. You can catch me with a book in my hand often, always been that way since I was young.
My retired teacher friends and I meet once a month and have lunch somewhere different. We catch up on what's going on in our lives and also share pictures of our travels or grandkids.
I'm also on mama duty because I am the only retired sibling of 5 - three brothers and one sister. My mom has 7 doctor appointments over the next 2 weeks and I'm her taxi driver!!! Let's just say that I'll really be ready for that old geezer bus trip to Branson in the coming weeks!!
Be safe and well,
Love Ginny (Mia)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
So that was my parents! Aren't they cute? They came up with that title -- "Life after 60" on their own without any input from me.
I hope you enjoyed their words to you. You can see where I get my sense of humor from and also my adventurous side and love of dancing. (I didn't really inherit my dad's running gene though???)
If you would like Ginny and Larry to write a future guest post, please show them some love and post that in the comments. Also, feel free to ask them questions about their life (or about me, their daughter). Then perhaps they can answer your questions in a future blog post.
Thanks mom and dad for playing along and writing a few words to my readers. I love you both! I hope you have a fun trip with those "snowbirds." Dad, don't get arrested getting some old guy drunk! See you both at Christmas!

They sound wonderful!! They both have great attitudes and personalities. Apples and trees....,
OMG! I'm in love with your parents! Seriously.
I will be down for the catfish, cold ones and ZZ Top. Just tell me when!
I want to be that cool when I'm 60. I love that Buddy makes fun of the old people. To me snowbirds are the people who spend their summers here in MN and their winters in AZ or FL. I like his description better:)
I want more guest posts by these two. For sure.
your parents rock!!!!
thanks for that guest post :) :)
Your parents are so cool! That is awesome that they are so physically active. I love working out now and I definitely want to be like that when I am older!
They are so cute and so active!! Tell Buddy that I'm up for Catfish and Skynard ANYTIME!
So your parents should really start planning that party, because it seems I'm not the only one who is up for some catfish and cold ones. It would be a blast, and although I am sure Buddy was just kidding, I think it would be rad.
He should guest post again so I can bug him about it! And how awesome would it be to get to meet everyone, and then read all of the different versions and point of views on what went on?
Yep, I'm with a few of the above posters - Buddy best get to preparing for that party, 'cause catfish, ZZ Top and cold ones sounds like a fine plan! (He's on his own for the run, though... I'll stay back and talk books with Mia. I'm a former teacher, too, so we'll find common ground, no doubt!
Thanks for sharing your folks with us, Mandy!
Im a formet teacher, too. I'd like to invite Buddy and Mia to check out my blog:

Of course, I'm much older than Mia; I'm 65 and hubby is 69.
That was a great post..I admire Buddy's energy!
They sound like a hoot!
Your parents are great! Maybe they should regularly guest post :) I bet they have a bunch of good stories. Latin cardio toning?? Go Ginny!!!
What a great and vivacious couple! I see where you get your joie de vivre and energy. :)
Ahhh, the Cajun energy and joie de vivre! Your parents have got it down pat! We have a lot in common. Love Z.Z. Top, as I used to date the drummer for Z.Z. Top, many moons ago, and of course, I love catfish, cold beer, and dancing! I think that they should start their own blog! Life after 60 is a perfect blog name and I would follow them, for sure! Great post!
I'm all for having your parents guest blog again. Hey, maybe they should just have their own blog! Something else to add to their youthful, exciting lives.
Buddy, get the catfish and shrimp ready...I'm heading your way!
Mia, I admire your love for working out. If only I could have that same love!
You both are a shining example of what other couples should be like.
I am a HUGE parent lover! You guys are too much fun. Is that a real invitation or just a polite one? Cuz I have some frequent flyer miles to use?
Nice site I will recommend you to all my friends. Thank you.
