The scariest place is indeed your mind. I believe that's the case for all of us. We create these fears...but in the end we realize there's no difference between the times we use the bathroom in the dark and we aren't scared and the times we are...except what our mind puts on the situation. I remember hearing Rod Serling on Twilight Zone once say, "There's nothing in the dark that isn't there when the lights are on." (or something like that.) He's right...but for some reason in the dark, it's all so much scarier.

Even worse, when I come home and can't find the light switch right away, I immediately think (for just a split second) there might be a crazed killer hiding somewhere to "get me". :-)

LOL@ the drunken hubby stories! I always get so freaked out after scary movies that I can't pee on my own. I make my hubby come with me and he laughs at me (and tries to scare me!)

OMG! I was laughing soooo hard! Similar to your story and Yankee Girls....my husband got lost in our 5ft by 5ft bathroom a few years ago. He was way drunk and I could hear his hand running along the wall looking for the light swich, then he started crying. I finally let him out, put him in bed, but he was sobbing so hard the bed was shaking. It's a fantastic story and I tell it all the time(it's way better in person, when you can see me imitating him!).

Also, mind mind scares me all the time. Just last night I was recalling some of the scary stories people have been blogging about(Yankee Girl, I'm looking at you) and freaked myself out.

Anyway, glad you made it out...wouldn't want you to miss your own daughters b-day because you were stuck in the bathroom!

You have an active imagination! Perfect for a creative writer like you :) You should see how my mind plays tricks on me. Every sound at night makes me jump. I would be nervous in a hotel room. The unfamiliar can make you jumpy.

Hope you have more peaceful days and nights ahead for you. Have some paper with you. If you get scared again, you may have the next best selling thriller inspiration :)

I don't watch scary movies either. They will haunt my thoughts for years!

I have never freaked out in a bathroom though. My husband got lost in our bathroom once, but that was because he was super drunk. He thought the shower curtain was the door, so he climbed in the shower and went to sleep because he couldn't find his way out.
